Reviews
Draper Heavy Duty Work Bench 4 Way is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very sturdy but ......! I mentioned to my partner that the trusty 30+ year old B&D Workmate, that I use regularly, was very tired and could do with "replacing". (However, I'm not scrapping it!) To cut a long story short, she eventually bought me this product for Christmas. OK, to the pros & cons:- PROS: The framework, once constructed, is very sturdy/stable. (I don't know how anyone can call it flimsy; it's built like a tank & way better than the current B&D range!) Adjustable table work-bench height will probably be useful but yet to try it. CONS: I had to return the first one as the front table work-bench was damaged; large chip off one corner. Sadly, its replacement was also slightly damaged (rear table work-bench this time) but I've decided to live with it. There are also blemishes in the paint finish of some components but realistically, in use, it's going to get scratched/scuffed anyway. Assembly instructions could be better and ideally, two people constructing would be better than one as it's quite fiddly. However, I managed it solo. Although the number of components supplied tallied with the number stated in the assembly instructions, there appears to be a slight shortage of washers (2). The table work-benches, whilst a substantial overall thickness, don't seem particularly hard wearing. The surface finish is very thin and susceptible to damage (see above) whilst the core seems to consist of compressed/bonded wood-chip which will be porous. I'm planning to varnish the edges! If, like me, you're taller than the average male (5' 9" apparently) the highest working position is too low. I foresee back-aches during extended use. (I'm 6' 2") I'm yet to be convinced that a metal "worm-drive" going into a threaded plastic housing is a good idea. Time will tell. SUMMARY: In general I like the product but it could be so much better. Having only just constructed it, I can't comment on its longevity or practicality. In my opinion Draper should: 1. Use better quality material for the table work-benches, that will invariably take a battering over time. 2. Improve their packaging to prevent transit damage. 3. Increase the folding leg length to cater for taller users. 4. Improve quality control. 5. Use a metal casting under the table work-benches instead of plastic. Hope anyone reading this finds my observations useful. (Please note, I've scored only 2 stars for performance, specification & reliability as I have yet to actually use the product.)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor design Purchased a few years ago to replace a worn-out Black & Decker, was disappointed in it from the outset; but my opinions of it have steadily worsened. It requires a minimum of 3 - ideally 4 - hands to open and set up. 1 to hold the bench; a further 1 (ideally 2) to release the locking buttons/knobs; and a 4th to pull the legs/table into position. Once up, I was initially impressed with the "quick-release" slide mechanism for half of the worktop - until I realised after very little use - that it becomes both difficult to release and difficult to lock into position. The final straw was when - again after very little use - the screw mechanisms for the other half of the worktop failed, first on one side, and then on the other. Do not waste you money on this!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Flimsy Even though it comes partially assembled, what remains is not without difficulty and headscratching, although the illustration on the box does help. It is flimsy and unsteady when assembled. The MDF top has sharp 90 degree corners - they could have been rounded off. I've managed to damaged the worktop edges in a short space of time. The rise and fall mechanism is terrible and leaves you with a beach deck chair scenario. I've left mine up as it refuses to work. Irony is I've now made my own workbench initially using this! The Draper is now sitting collecgting dust.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sturdy but vulnerable This was a bit tricky fiddly to assemble but everything went OK and its pretty sturdy, a good solid workbench. BUT.... Don't let it get wet! i left it outside in the rain for less than 2 minutes and now all along the edges and drilled holes the MDF has swollen and gone soft. I think that this may also happen over time if the workbench is stored in a damp environment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total disaster Today I purchased a Draper Work Bench from Amersham. It took over 2 hours to almost put it together. It was extremely fiddly. At the last hurdle I found it short of 4 bolts for a back bar and that the plastic washers would not fit with the screw on handles on front. I should have sensed problems when I looked at the box at home and it was sealed with sellotape and there were no instructions. I had to write this negative as the given email address I am extremely disappointed. Today I purchased a Draper work bench from Amersham. Harrison 8610 I think was the code. I had to post this review as the Toolstation email address didn’t work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product Better than a workmate to use. Very stable. A bit fiddly to assemble but worth the effort. There is a knack to folding it but once you know where you are on that it is fine.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very heavy duty - except where it matters This workbench has performed great for me, except now it is broken. The metal wormscrew (which close and open the workbench) go into a plastic nut, which strips after a while leaving you with a none working bench. Considering the heavy dydt contruction of the rest of the bench, a plastic on metal screw part makes no sense, and smacks of false economy from the manufacturer.
